Interview #004 – Kyle Van Deusen

The wonderful Kyle Van Deusen was our guest on Thursday 17 January 2019 at 17.30 CET/ GMT+1 talking to us about the time-honoured Art of Copying, which is a bona-fide artistic and design tradition in case you didn’t know.

Kyle is a self-taught [brilliant] designer, so his take is absolutely perfect for our community. He will tell us all about his journey into becoming a designer on the web – without any formal design training, thanks to persevering with the art of copying.

Kyle talks to us about one of the methods you can use to improve your design skills: recreating and copying designs you like.

As Kyle himself says: “As a “designer” with no formal training, this has been an exercise that has helped me out a ton. I believe what the formal design training gives you is a lot of theory and the ability to articulate design in ways that I (and many of us) don’t have. Tips like this can help you “figure out” some of the subtle deals that will really lock in a great design!”
